HS playoff action
Diving catch ends
bases loaded threatIt is playoff fever in the high school state championships at this time of year. And, it is "catching", especially for the masked player behind the plate. Every out is critical; every run is big; every play is magnified.
No one feels it more than junior catcher Macy Morris who proudly wears the “tools of ignorance” gear for the Queen Anne's County Lions. Macy also plays for the Harford Xtreme Showcase travel-ball team.

Macy is known for expertly handling drop, rise, screw, and curve balls whizzing across the plate, blocking balls that suddenly dive into the dirt, shrewdly calling an array of pitches to kept batters off balance, firing down the base paths with a rocket arm to catch a runner off base, and stepping up her own RBI production at the plate, as well.
She did every bit of that and more in Monday evening's high school playoff contest.
The pressure was on. Two top-notch teams squared off. The Easton Warriors came for battle against Macy's Lions. Macy strapped on her catcher's gear and pledged no steals and no passed balls, which she did deliver without exception throughout the hard fought contest.
Her fielding saved runs early in the game when Macy dove for a second inning third-out pop-up with the bases loaded that squelched any hopes for a quick Warriors run up of the score.
“That was big for them and a deflator for us,” admitted Head Coach Powell of the Easton warriors.
Later, Macy kept the came close with her bat as she belted home an RBI line-drive deep into the outfield in the sixth to bring Queen Anne within 2 runs.
Macy's Lions ultimately lost the game last night, but mark them down as winners in effort, as Easton went home with a narrow 4-2 victory.
