New domain name
Easier to find team online now
Harford Xtreme Showcase homepage has a new domain name! It is... 

You may of noticed that the word “gold” has been added to the new domain name.

The “gold” designation marks a level of 18U fastpitch competition. It simply means the team is prepped to play against the toughest opponents in the upcoming spring and summer tournaments.
Effective this fall 2012, the Harford Xtreme Showcase will officially assume the name of Harford Xtreme Gold!
The 18U Harford Xtreme Showcase/ Gold is a fastpitch softball team based in Harford County, Md. The team focuses on strong softball fundamentals, while also closely monitoring and promoting academic success. Its coaches and players are totally dedicated to the college showcase environment.

The team goals are to guide, teach, and navigate a clear path for its players so they may achieve their softball dreams as well as gain college tuition assistance.

The team's 2012 tournament schedule is currently set as...

In addition, the team also plays in the Harford Community College Unlimited League through the 2012 summer with a doubleheader every Thursday evening.

THE NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER certifies that college-bound athletes who wish to compete in Division I or II athletic programs have met necessary academic credentials and are of amateur status.
 
STUDENTS INTERESTED IN DI AND DII softball programs need to be certified as eligible per NCAA academic and amateurism guidelines. NCAA colleges and universities set these regulations.

Freshman third baseman Jess Grisler was named the CAA Rookie of the Week

Jess guards the hot corner for the University of Delaware Blue Hens (Newark, DE) who play only a few miles north on I-95 of the Harford Xtreme Showcase (Md) practice fields.

In this young season, Jess is tied for the team lead with 13 hits and eight runs scored while ranking second on the squad with a .342 batting average and seven RBI.

The Stevenson University Mustangs (Owings Mills, Md) won one of a trio of Saturday games. The lone victory happened in a 2-1 dramatic fashion against the Emory & Henry Wasps when freshman second base Stephanie Ayres, Upper Marlboro, Md, executed a walk-off suicide squeeze.

The squeeze came after a triple in the eighth by sophomore utility Kristin Baione, Waldorf, Md, that tied the game. CLICK FOR BOX SCORE.
 
In the second game against Methodist University Monarchs, Kristin Baione went 2-for-3. Senior shortstop, outfielder Lisa Bilski, Forest Hill, Md, scored the Mustangs' lone run. CLICK FOR BOX SCORE.

GIBSON: The #9 Tennessee Lady Vols toppled the UMass Minutewomen 5-0 with a three-run home run by junior second baseman Lauren Gibson, Pasadena, Md.

At the plate Lauren was a perfect 2-for-2 with 2 walks, 3 RBIs, a steal and a run scored, while blasting her sixth HR of the season. She has lifted her season average to .405 and currently leads the Big Orange with 17 RBIs.  CLICK HERE for the full story.

WEIMAN: The NC State Wolfpack defeated the Toledo Rockets by a score of 4-2. Freshman pitcher Emily Weiman, Pasadena, Md, picked up the win. She surrendered two runs (zero earned) off of four hits and struck out 11 Toledo batters in the complete game effort. CLICK HERE for the full story.

RETRIEVERS: The UMBC Retrievers came from behind on Saturday for a 14-9 win after the Hampton Pirates scored three first inning runs. It was UNBC senior left fielder Katie Ferguson, North East, Md, who quickly responded, tying the score at three in the top of the second inning on an RBI single. Katie went 3-for-4 for the day, walked, and scored twice.

UNBC sophomore third base Jessica Warner, Huntingtown, Md, was 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. 

UNBC freshman left field Mary Hartman, Eldersburg, Md, knocked out 2-for-5, also with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.

UNBC junior pitcher Heather Brown, Pasadena, Md, started the game and threw four innings, while sophomore pitcher Kayla Martinez, Odenton, Md, worked relief in the seventh, allowing no earned runs, to close the game.

YELLOW JACKETS: The Savannah College of Art and Design Bees swept a doubleheader from the Brewton-Parker Barons

Freshman pitcher Sydnee Schorr, Easton, Md, worked relief to end the second game. She faced the minimum of 9 batters in the final three innings. Sydnee gave up no hits, no walks, and struck out three.

Two are hometown Marylanders...
WC co-captain trio named

 
The Washington College Shorewomen have named three co-captains for 2012. Two of the three are hometown Marylander players.

The three teammates are junior pitcher, outfielder Brittany Walter, Forest Hill, Md, junior second base Shaelan Nottingham, Ocean City, Md, and senior third base Sally Snover, Charlotte, NC.

Brittany Walter



Brittany, last year, set the school's strikeout record in the circle with 77. In her career she is 15-21 with a 4.07 ERA in 218.1 innings with 140 strikeouts. She is fifth all-time at Washington in strikeouts. 






Shaelan Nottingham


Shaelan has started in all 74 games since arriving at Washington College and is batting .249 with one home run and 26 RBI. She has scored 36 runs, recorded 54 hits and is a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen bases.






Sally Snover


Sally batted a career-best .299 in 2011 while drawing a school-record 26 walks. The 26 walks also led the Centennial Conference. She scored a team-high 25 runs and led the squad with a .438 on-base percentage.

Sea Gulls flying high


The #8 ranked Salisbury University Sea Gulls completed three games Saturday to improve to a 4-0 record.

► IN THE FIRST GAME, the Roanoke College Maroons were shut out 5-0. (This contest was a continuation of a rain delay game that started on Friday.)

Freshman pitcher Kathryn Larson, Frederick, Md, started the game to work 3 innings and scatter 3 hits. Freshman pitcher Rachel Johnson, Preston, Md, struck out four in her two innings worked.

Junior DH Lindsay Brown, Ellicott, City, Md, delivered with a hit in two opportunities, while junior catcher Michelle Gravdahl, Ellicott City, Md, contributed an RBI.

Sophomore outfielder Angelia McDowell, Frederick, Md, was 1-1 with a run scored. Junior second base Carly Read, Catonsville, Md, hit and also scored a run. Both junior outfielder Sarah Alpaugh, Eldersburg, Md, and sophomore first base Harley Hill, Huntingtown, Md, scored runs, as well.

► IN THE SECOND GAME, the Greensboro College Pride fell 9-1.

Junior catcher Michelle Gravdahl, Ellicott City, Md, hit 2-2, drew 2 walks, delivered 3 RBIs, and scored a run. Junior outfielder Sarah Alpaugh, Eldersburg, Md, went 3-4

Junior DH Lindsay Brown, Ellicott, City, Md, slammed two hits, while sophomore first base Harley Hill, Huntingtown, Md, scored two runs. Both junior second base Carly Read, Catonsville, Md, and sophomore outfielder Molly Gigioli, Frederick Md, knocked out hits and scored.

► IN THE THIRD GAME, the Seagulls prevailed over North Carolina Wesleyan University Battling Bishops by a score of 2-0 in eight innings!

Freshman pitcher Kathryn Larson, Frederick, Md, posted 6 Ks in 4 innings. In this hard fought game, Junior DH Lindsay Brown, Ellicott City, Md, recorded a 2-3 day at the plate, while both junior outfielder Sarah Alpaugh, Eldersburg, Md, hit 2-4 and sophomore first base Harley Hill, Huntingtown, Md, went 2-4.

Sophomore outfielder Molly Gigioli, Laurel, Md, drove-in the go-ahead run, while Harley brought home junior second base Carly Read, Catonsville, Md, who was 1-2, for an eighth inning insurance run.

There were four stolen bases in this game by Sarah, Lindsay, Carly, and Molly.

NO RUNS EARNED: The NC State Wolfpack battled the Georgetown Hoyas in a 7-5 triumph. 

Freshman Emily Weiman, Pasadena, Md, earned the win. She came on in relief in the third. Emily finished the game without an earned run charged against her. 

The Hoyas turned to their freshman pitcher Megan Hyson, Pasadena, Md, to work relief in the fourth inning. CLICK HERE for full story 


Megan Hyson
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Earlier, Georgetown Hoyas freshman pitcher Megan Hyson, Pasadena, Md, was named the Big East Softball Pitcher of the Week. 

Last week, Megan pitched her first career no-hitter against the Howard University Bisons.  

In 13 innings pitched and two wins, Hyson has struck out 22 batters. She currently posts a 1.38 ERA. CLICK HERE for full story

A TRIPLE: The Towson Tigers came from behind to beat the Morgan State Bears by a score of 7-5 yesterday. Senior right fielder Brianna Jones, Baltimore, Md, tripled home an RBI in a three-run sixth for Towson, which was the inning that decided the game.

In a second game, Sophomore pitcher Morgan State Jordan Eades, Reistertown, Md, started in the circle against the Boston College Eagles, but ran into a no-hit game pitched against her.

Holly Buckel
A BUNT: The Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers single run was enough to overcome the Stetson University Hatters in a 1-0 contest. Plus, The Mount's pitching allowed just a single hit. Freshman shortstop, catcher Holly Buckel's, Finksburg, Md, sacrifice bunt moved the only run that would score for the day from first to second.

A WALK: The Maryland Terrapins' fired up bats were knocking in runs against the Southern Illinois Salukis yesterday, winning 12-8 at Disney's Wide World of Sports. Senior catcher, outfielder Sloane Van Meter, Hanover, Md, drew a key bases loaded walk in the fifth against the Salukis. Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Schmeiser, Dunkirk, Md, also worked a brief relief appearance.

Scores early in season opener  
Salisbury wins with hitting & pitching

Junior catcher Michelle Gravdahl, Ellicott City, Md, started the season off right by slamming a three-run homer in the second inning this afternoon for the #8 ranked Salisbury State University (Md) Sea Gulls. The scoring mounted for a final 8-1 win against Piedmont College Lady Lions. Michelle also fired from the plate to first to pick off a runner.

Sophomore first base Harley Hill, Huntingtown, Md, contributed impressively with a 3-for-4 day and 2 RBIs.
 

Sophomore pitcher Kathryn Larson, Frederick, Md, worked relief in the seventh as she promptly retired every batter she faced.

Starting pitcher Erika Brittingham threw brilliantly with contributions from her bat, as well. She allowed just one hit over six innings, striking out six, while she hit 2-for-2 at the plate, including a two-run home run in the same inning that Michelle sent her ball out of the park. Erika is a native of Georgetown, Delaware.

The Sea Gulls have three games tomorrow. First, the continuation of a rain-out against the Roanoke College Maroons followed by contests against the Greensboro College Pride and the North Carolina Wesleyan College Battling Bishops.

Hometown Md players shine  
Terps off to great start

The Maryland Terrapins took both games of its home opener against Oakland Golden Grizzlies yesterday, Wednesday, to raise their record to 6-1. Maryland exploded for 17 runs off 20 hits. Oakland managed just five runs off 13 hits.

IN GAME ONE, the Terps quickly put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first and never trailed. With runners on second and third and one out, senior catcher, outfielder Sloane Van Meter (Hanover, Md) singled to left to score both.

 IN GAME TWO, freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Schmeiser (Dunkirk, Md) started and threw all 5.0 innings from the circle. She struck out two and gave up six hits.

GAME ONE PITCHER HONORED: Senior Kendra Knight threw 7.0 innings with 12 strikeouts and allowed three runs off seven hits in the first game.

Kendra also was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Softball Pitcher of the Week.

She earned the award from two stellar wins last week over No. 11 Michigan Wolverines and No. 22 Kentucky Wildcats

In these games against ranked teams, she allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out 17 in 16.0 innings pitched in the two complete games thrown. Against the Wildcats, she did not allow a hit in the two extra innings.
