MD players: key roles in wins

Weekend results keep trickling in. Here's more news about hometown college Marylanders.

Saturday...

RETRIEVERS: The UMBC Retrievers came from behind on Saturday for a 14-9 win after the Hampton Pirates scored three first inning runs. It was UNBC senior left fielder Katie Ferguson, North East, Md, who quickly responded, tying the score at three in the top of the second inning on an RBI single. Katie went 3-for-4 for the day, walked, and scored twice.

Jessica Warner

UNBC sophomore third base Jessica Warner, Huntingtown, Md, was 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. 

UNBC freshman left field Mary Hartman, Eldersburg, Md, knocked out 2-for-5, also with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.

Kayla Martinez




UNBC junior pitcher Heather Brown, Pasadena, Md, started the game and threw four innings, while sophomore pitcher Kayla Martinez, Odenton, Md, worked relief in the seventh, allowing no earned runs, to close the game.

Sydnee Schorr
YELLOW JACKETS: The Savannah College of Art and Design Bees swept a doubleheader from the Brewton-Parker Barons

Freshman pitcher Sydnee Schorr, Easton, Md, worked relief to end the second game. She faced the minimum of 9 batters in the final three innings. Sydnee gave up no hits, no walks, and struck out three.

Kaitlyn Schmeiser
TERPS: The Maryland Terrapins out dueled the Marshall Thundering Herd to win a close 2-1 contest that was a battle to the final out. 

Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Schmeiser, Dunkirk, Md, earned the save as she struck out the side with runners on in the final inning.
