Scores early in season opener  
Salisbury wins with hitting & pitching

Junior catcher Michelle Gravdahl, Ellicott City, Md, started the season off right by slamming a three-run homer in the second inning this afternoon for the #8 ranked Salisbury State University (Md) Sea Gulls. The scoring mounted for a final 8-1 win against Piedmont College Lady Lions. Michelle also fired from the plate to first to pick off a runner.

Sophomore first base Harley Hill, Huntingtown, Md, contributed impressively with a 3-for-4 day and 2 RBIs.
 

Sophomore pitcher Kathryn Larson, Frederick, Md, worked relief in the seventh as she promptly retired every batter she faced.

Starting pitcher Erika Brittingham threw brilliantly with contributions from her bat, as well. She allowed just one hit over six innings, striking out six, while she hit 2-for-2 at the plate, including a two-run home run in the same inning that Michelle sent her ball out of the park. Erika is a native of Georgetown, Delaware.

There are ten other hometown Marylanders on the Salisbury team:  Lindsay Brown Ellicott City, MdVirginia Walther, Salisbury, Md, Marissa Nickerson, Chesapeake City, Md, Danielle Schivone, Ellicott City, Md, Rachel Johnson, Preston, Md, Molly Gigioli, Laurel, Md, Erica Henderson, Westover, Md, Carly Read, Catonsville, Md, Angelia McDowell, Frederick, Md, and Sarah Alpaugh, Eldersburg, Md.

The Sea Gulls have three games tomorrow. First, the continuation of a rain-out against the Roanoke College Maroons followed by contests against the Greensboro College Pride and the North Carolina Wesleyan College Battling Bishops.
