Sunday: throws 12 Ks, allows just 4 hits
MD's Emily Weiman impressive

The Georgia Bulldogs, ranked #10 nationally, were surprised last Sunday, February 12, at the Red and Black Showcase (Athens, Ga.), when Maryland's own Emily Weiman entered the pitcher's circle as a freshman for the NC State Wolfpack. Seven innings later, the Bulldogs went home with their first loss in four outings of this young season.

Emily, whose hometown is Pasadena, MD, struck out 12 and allowed just four hits on her way to a hard fought NC State 3-2 victory. In the first inning, an error scored a run for Georgia, leaving two on, but Emily struck out the final two batters to eliminate the threat. Emily then shut down all Bulldog scoring after the second and sent the side down swinging to end the fourth.

Back home, her family and Maryland friends, neighbors, and teammates have seen this before.

At Archbishop Spalding high school (Severn, MD) in 2010, she compiled a 17-3 record, 0.15 ERA, and struck out 305 for the year, leading the school to the conference title. In her high school career, she tossed six no-hitters and two perfect games.

Locally, she played travel-ball for many years for the Lake Shore Lightning and the Riviera Beach Spirit Gold teams where Coach Charles Weimer, now head coach for Harford Xtreme Showcase, would often praise and encourage her with a message: “You are 'The Bull'!”

On Sunday, she was definitely “The Bull”, while now part of an aggressive Wolfpack!
