Harford County, Md, star
Jessica Canami named
Girls Athlete of the Week

Jessica Canami

High school senior Jessica Canami of the C. Milton Wright Mustangs softball team, and also of the 18U harford Xtreme travel- ball club, has been named “Girls Athlete of the Week”.

Here is Glenn Graham's report from The Baltimore Sun, which can be read in its entirety at http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/high-school/varsity-letters/bs-va-sp-girl-athlete-0404-20120403,0,6899187.story. Mr. Graham writes...
“The senior center fielder has been the early-season sparkplug for the No. 2 Mustangs, who are off to a 5-1 start that included three wins last week. A four-year starter, Canami is leading the team in nine offensive categories. In wins over North East, Perryville and then-No. 2 Archbishop Spalding, she batted .667 (8 for 12) with eight RBIs, six runs scored and two stolen bases. Canami enjoyed perfect games at the plate in the wins over North East and Perryville — going a combined 7-for-7, driving in seven runs and scoring four more — before getting one hit, two RBIs and scoring the game-winning run in the upset win over Spalding.

Among other statistics, Canami leads the team this season in batting average (.542), RBIs (11), runs scored (10), and slugging percentage (.792). She plans to play softball and soccer at York (Pa.) College, and she also played basketball at C. Milton Wright.”
