No. 18 Salisbury sweeps,  
ends conference schedule

“The No. 18 Salisbury University softball team concluded its regular-season Capital Athletic Conference schedule with a sweep of York (Pa.) College to claim the regular-season conference title with an unblemished record of 12-0. The Sea Gulls only needed 11 innings total to pick up the wins with an 8-0 six inning victory and then an 9-1 five inning win.

“At the start of the doubleheader... Salisbury (31-5, 12-0 CAC) was relentless in the batters' box, scoring eight runs on 12 hits; three of which came in the bottom of the first inning.

“The Sea Gulls increased their lead to 7-0 in the fifth inning as junior Sarah Alpaugh (Eldersburg, Md) started things off with a double down the left field line followed by classmate Michelle Gravdahl's (Ellicott City, Md) double, plating Alpaugh; Gravdahl would then score … SU hit three consecutive singles off the bats of (Casey) Zaino and juniors Lindsay McCabe and Lindsay Brown (Ellicott City, Md) to score two additional runs...

“The maroon and gold put the final run on the board in the bottom of the sixth as sophomore Harley Hill (Huntingtown, Md) crossed the plate after a Spartan error to end the game, 8-0.

“In game two... Junior Carly Read (Catonsville, Md) collected two RBI with a double while Alpaugh's second at bat of the inning ended the game as she singled through the left side allowing Read to cross home and end the game, 9-1, in the fifth.

“Freshman Rachel Johnson (13-2) (Preston, Md) earned the win in the circle, pitching all five innings for the Gulls. The Preston, Md., native finished with three strike outs while allowing one run on five hits.

“Gravdahl ended the doubleheader 4-for-7 with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored while Alpaugh went 5-for-7 with one double, drove in one RBI and touched home three times.”

Stevenson earns No. 5 seed  
for CAC Softball Championship

“Stevenson softball senior Brittani Rynkowski (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and sophomore Lindsay Kuczak (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) each totaled four hits and two RBIs as the Mustangs swept a CAC doubleheader at Wesley Saturday at DuPont Field, 6-1 and 5-0.

“In game one, the Mustangs tied a season-high 14 hits, three of which came from sophomore Kristin Baione (Waldorf, Md./North Point) as she went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Senior Brittany King (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) was 2-for-4.

“Stevenson quickly got on the board in the top of the first after Rynkowski doubled to right center and then came around to score on an RBI-single by senior Lisa Bilski (Forest Hill, Md. /Fallston).

“The Mustangs built a 4-0 lead in the fourth after RBIs from Kuczak and sophomore Kristen Fassler (Owings Mills, Md./Western Tech) in the third and an RBI-single from Rynkowski in the fourth...

“Kuczak was 2-for-3 with one RBI in the game one while Bilski was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Rynkowski went 2-for-5 with one RBI...

“The Mustangs picked up their eighth shutout of the season with a 5-0 victory in game two...

Taylor Hendricks (Havre de Grace, Md.) had the only hit for Wesley as she went 1-for-2.

“Kuczak was 2-for-4 with one RBI while Rynkowski went 2-for-3 with one RBI as the two combined for four of Stevenson's eight hits.

“As a result of today's doubleheader sweep, the Mustangs will be the No. 5 seed in next week's CAC Softball Championship and will travel to Fredericksburg, Virginia on Tuesday, April 17 to face No. 2 seed Mary Washington in the first round beginning at 4:00 p.m.”
