DIII PRESEASON POLL: Salisbury UniversityMD Sea Gulls, 36-6 last year, are ranked 8th across the nation in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III preseason poll. Nearby, the Christopher Newport University Captains finished third, Rowan University Profs took 24th position, and the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins came in twenty-fifth. RUTGERS TARGETS TITLE. “This year our goal is to win the Big East,” said Lindsey Curran, a Rutgers University Scarlet Knights senior outfielder. “It’s not even a question in our minds. That’s our goal — to win the Big East,” she insists. Rutgers has qualified for the Big East Tournament for the past two years, but lost the opening-round game both times. “We’re a well-balanced team,” said Kylee Bishop, a senior catcher. “We have the speed, the power, the pitching, and as long as everything comes together the way it should, we’ll be fine." Megan Wiggins
A CHICAGO- JAPAN COMMUTE! Megan Wiggins played last summer for professional softball's Chicago Bandits. Later this month she leaves to join Team Denso in Japan! Actually, she will commute, playing in Japan through June, then back to the Bandits this summer, and off again to Team Denso in late August through November. "I feel a little bit of everything," Wiggins said. "I'm nervous because it's so far away and it's a different culture, a different language. But I'm excited, too, because I've heard from everybody that has played in Japan that it's an awesome experience." GENDER INEQUALITY CASE.
