Hometown Md players shine
Terps off to great start The Maryland Terrapins took both games of its home opener against Oakland Golden Grizzlies yesterday, Wednesday, to raise their record to 6-1. Maryland exploded for 17 runs off 20 hits. Oakland managed just five runs off 13 hits.

IN GAME ONE, the Terps quickly put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first and never trailed. With runners on second and third and one out, senior catcher, outfielder Sloane Van Meter (Hanover, Md) singled to left to score both.

IN GAME TWO, freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Schmeiser (Dunkirk, Md) started and threw all 5.0 innings from the circle. She struck out two and gave up six hits.

GAME ONE PITCHER HONORED: Senior Kendra Knight threw 7.0 innings with 12 strikeouts and allowed three runs off seven hits in the first game.

She earned the award from two stellar wins last week over No. 11 Michigan Wolverines and No. 22 Kentucky Wildcats.
In these games against ranked teams, she allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out 17 in 16.0 innings pitched in the two complete games thrown. Against the Wildcats, she did not allow a hit in the two extra innings.
