SHUTOUTS ABOUND

Reports about HOMETOWN MARYLAND softball players on the college & university playing fields.

DREXEL VS GEORGETOWN: The Drexel Dragons fell to the Georgetown Hoyas, 3-0, despite four strong innings from their starting pitcher sophomore Shelby Taylor, Easton, Md, who allowed one earned run. The Hoyas starting pitcher freshman Megan Hyson, Pasadena, Md, struck out 5 for the complete game shutout.

Megan was producing at the plate, too. The Hoyas got on the board in the third inning when Megan stroked a one-out double to the wall in left-center field, which, two batters later, led to her scoring the game’s first run. It also was the Hoyas' first hit of the afternoon by Megan who went 1-for-1 with two walks on the day.

USF BULLS: Rack up another shutout for the No. 24 University of South Florida Bulls versus Canisius, despite no earned runs allowed by either side.

The Bulls put runners on in three of the first four innings, but couldn't bring one home until the fifth, when sophomore shortstop Kourtney Salvarola, Arnold, Md, crossed home with the only run of the game.

 
RIDER BRONCS: The Rider University Broncs defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 5-2. The Broncs opened the scoring in the second inning when freshman Allysen Breeden, Hagerstown, Md, led off with a single to right field and eventually scored.

Later, the Broncs The Broncs put together four hits in the fifth inning, including an RBI single from junior Sam Pugh, Elkton, Md.

COPPIN EAGLES: Despite junior Patrice Williams, Baltimore, Md, slamming two hits and two RBI, the Coppin State Eagles were swept in a doubleheader with the Siena Saints.

In the second game, Eagle pitcher Tiffani Whaley, White Plain, Md, drilled a single that loaded the bases with two outs, which allowed the next batter to knock in pinch-runner Nicole Boggs, Great Mills, Md.
