Pinch runner scores in eighth  
Retrievers, Patriots battle

  The George Mason Patriots fell short in extra innings to the UMBC Retrievers today by a score of 4-2.

Marty Hartman

Retriever senior Katie Ferguson, North East, Md, brought around freshman pinch runner Mary Hartman, Eldersburg, Md, to provide the final margin in the eighth inning.  

Katie batted 2-for-4 on the day.

Caitlin Chance

 


Retriever sophomore second base Caitlin Chance, Easton, Md, went 2-for-3 with a walk. She also started the rally in the eighth inning with a one out single through the left side of the infield. 

Heather Brown




The Retrievers junior Heather Brown, Pasadena, Md, threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win for UMBC.

Katie Rynex





The Patriots received solid pitching from freshman Tiffany Harvell, Bowie, Md, junior Amanda Buffington, and freshman Jamie Rice, Saint Leonard, Md, giving up a total of just seven hits and four runs in the ballgame.  

Patriot first baseman left fielder Katie Rynex, Herndon, Md, hit 1-for-2 and scored in the fourth inning.
