Univ. of Maryland, Baltimore County

Heather Brown
GRAND SLAM! : The UMBC Retrievers finished a game yesterday -- that had been delayed by rain on Friday -- by defeating the Canisius Golden Griffins 6-4. Junior pitcher Heather Brown, Pasadena, Md, recorded a complete game win, her second of the season.  Over seven innings, Heather (2-1) yielded only one earned run on four hits.

The offense was led by sophomore second base, utility Caitlin Chance, Easton, Md, who drove in four of the Retrievers six runs.  Over the course of the two-day game, Caitlin went 3-for-4 against the Golden Griffins, including her first career homerun, a grand slam.

Sophomore third base Jessica Warner, Huntingtown, Md, added an RBI when she doubled home first base, pitcher, utility Katie Ferguson, North East, Md, who had walked.

Kris Durham


SWEEP! : The Shepherd University Rams swept the Chowan University Hawks with a 8-0 win in five innings in game one and rallied for a 6-5 triumph in the nightcap.

On the day, senior catcher Kris Durham, Queen Anne, Md, went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. 

Two hometown Maryland freshman had big games. Freshman outfielder Tayler Schaefer, Dunkirk, Md, was 3-for-6 with 1 RBI, freshman catcher Elisa Orlandi, Owings, Md, hit 2-for-5 with 1 RBI.

Others contributing at the plate were sophomore outfielder Alysha Voytell, Frederick, Md, who hit 1-for-1, and Freshman catcher, third base Savannah Snyder, Elkton, Md, who delivered with a 1-for-2 day.

Senior second base Delaney Bell, Glen Burnie, Md, also knocked in an RBI. 

Sophomore reliever Alexis Fisher, Sharpsburg, Md, picked up a win to improve to 2-0.
