The Rider University Broncs opened the home portion of their 2012 schedule today with a split against the Drexel University Dragons

The teams have now met 43 times since the series began in 1983 with Rider winning 25 and Drexel victorious in 18.

For the Broncs in the opener, a one-out double by junior catcher Sam Pugh, Elkton, Md, drove home a run to end scoreless tie in the fourth inning.

In the night cap, the Dragons erupted with 11 hits and 6 walks, including two passes earned by junior first base Jenn Reading, Stevensville, Md.

Shelby Taylor
Dragon sophomore CAA Pitcher of the Week Shelby Taylor, Easton, Md, allowed no runs, and struck out 5 over 6.2 innings. She also scored a run herself.

Shelby gave up only 4 hits, but 3 were to a hometown Maryland Broncs. Rider freshman Allysen Breeden, Hagerstown, Md, singled and freshman Amanda Irving, Westminster, Md, went 3-for-4 in the game (picking one her hits off a Dragon reliever).
