MD players, Wednesday’s contests
Many close games, key hits

Emily Weiman
11 INNINGS: NC State Wolfpack lost to the College of Charleston in an 11 inning affair, by a score of 3-2. Freshman pitcher Emily Weiman, Pasadena, Md, took a no-hitter into the sixth inning for the Pack. In 11 innings of work, she surrendered three earned runs off of seven hits while striking out 15 Cougar hitters.


Chelsea Stern

9 INNINGS: The Delaware State Hornets forced nine innings before falling to Jacksonville University, 4-3. DSU tied the game in the third when senior Chelsea Stern, Owings, Md, led off the inning with a double to left field and fellow senior Jordan Reid, Accokeek, Md, followed with a single to left center. Later, Jordan would score, too.


Autumn Taylor
WALK-OFF: The Towson Tigers lost a close one, 6-5, to a walk-off single from the George Washington Colonials in the bottom of the seventh. 

Colonial junior center fielder Autumn Taylor, Severna Park, Md, had a big day, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored.

In the fourth inning, Tiger senior outfielder Erika Stasch, Pasadena, Md, who went 2-for-4 on the day, led off with a solo home run over the left field fence. It was the fourth home run of the season for the senior, who leads the team. Tiger senior second base Haley Stueckler, Huntingtown, Md, 1-for 3, also scored in the inning.

POWER PITCHING: Wesley College Wolverine Junior pitcher Taylor Hendricks, Havre de Grace, Md, stopped Penn State-Beaver 11-3 yesterday. She allowed just five hits in the complete game





Denise Mitchell

NATIONAL RANK: The now No. 25 Shenandoah University Hornets celebrated its entrance into the softball national rankings by splitting a non-league doubleheader with Randolph-Macon College. In the 2-0 Hornet nightcap victory, junior Denise Mitchell, Ellicott City, Md, 2-for-3, doubled to right and ultimately scored both runs in the contest.



Savannah Snyder

SWEEP: The Shepherd University Rams swept a doubleheader from Millersville with a 2-1 win in game one and added a 5-2 victory in the evening. 

Shepherd tied game one in the third from an RBI-single off the bat of freshman designated player Savannah Snyder, Elkton, Md. The Rams scored the game-winner in the fifth off a RBI double by senior second baseman Delaney Bell, Glen Burnie, Md

In game two, Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in the second behind an RBI from sophomore outfielder Alysha Voytell, Frederick, Md.

Samantha Crabtree

10 HITS: The Davis & Elkins Senators defeated Winston-Salem State, winning the second game of a doubleheader, 13-4. Senators pounded out 10 hits and were led, among several others, by sophomore catcher Samantha Crabtree, Emmitsburg, Md, who had two hits.

STRONG SHOWING: The Washington College Shorewomen battled the 17th-ranked Rowan University Profs, but lost 8-7 yesterday. 

The Shorewomen tied the game in the second on a sacrifice fly by freshman designated player Suzanne Patinella, Fallston, Md

Answering four later Prof runs, Shorewoman junior shortstop Lindsey Glascock, Glenwood, Md, delivered an RBI in the fifth and junior second baseman Shaelan Nottingham, Ocean City, Md, socked a bases-loaded single. Then, Shaelan scored on a single from her sister, sophomore catcher Kylie Nottingham, Ocean City, Md. Kyle was 3-for-4 in the game.

Washington pulled to within one run when freshman Kelsey Graham, Dunkirk, Md, led off the top of the sixth with a walk and scored on an error three batters later to trim the lead to 6-5.
