Thursday games:
Rivals UMBC, Towson square off,
Salisbury sweeps with bats & pitching

RIVALRY: The UMBC Retrievers’ senior pitcher Katie Ferguson, North East, Md, threw a complete game 6-0 to blank the local rival Towson Tigers, who were held to 3 hits.

Tigers’ senior center fielder Erika Stasch, Pasadena, Md, had two of those hits as she went 2-for-3 on the day, singling to left field in the second and fourth innings.

Katie has won her past three decisions, going the distance in each. 

Erika has a .340 batting average this season and a team-best .723 slugging percentage.

Retrievers’ sophomore third base Jessica Warner, Huntingtown, Md, let fly TWO home runs, totaling four RBI and two runs scored. 

Sophomore second base Caitlin Chance, Easton, Md, picked up the only other extra base hit in the game, a double, as she knocked in and scored two runs against the Tigers.

BATS ALIVE: The No. 9 Salisbury University Sea Gulls picked up two wins on Thursday afternoon sweeping Lynchburg College, 9-0, in five innings of play and then 4-1 in seven.

In the first game, the Sea Gulls’ started putting runs on the board in the second. An RBI double by sophomore first base Harley Hill, Huntington, Md, was one of a couple of runs scored that inning.

By the third inning, the Sea Gulls were scoring seven runs on six hits and batting around the lineup. 

Sophomore outfielder Sarah Alpaugh, Eldersburg, Md, started off the third with a single through the left side followed by a single from junior Michelle Gravdahl, Ellicott City, Md, who batted 3-for-3 in the game, and 3-for-4 on the day, with 3 RBIs and scoring twice. 

Sophomore outfielder Molly Gigioli, Laurel, Md, also contributed an RBI and run scored.

Rachel Johnson
In the second game, freshman pitcher Rachel Johnson, Preston, Md, stepped into the circle, earning her first win as a Sea Gull while striking out the first four batters she faced. 

Rachel allowed one run in the contest, off four hits, while stinging the Hornets with 10 strikeouts.
