 “The Drexel softball team put together a complete performance on Wednesday afternoon, as they swept a doubleheader from Bucknell with strong pitching, timely and powerful hitting, and solid defense. The Dragons won both games by 7-2 scores. Hillary Allen and Shelby Taylor (Easton, Md) each pitched complete games, with Taylor tossing a one-hitter and striking out 11 in the second contest...

"Jenn Reading (Stevensville, Md) homered twice in the first game, her second multi-home run contest in three games....

“The Dragons fell behind early in the first game, as Bucknell mounted a two-out rally to score a run in the top of the first. The Dragons knotted things up in the second, however, when Jenn Reading led off with a drive to left-center field, her sixth home run of the season.”

SHEPHERD RAMS: 

“Shepherd University split WVIAC softball doubleheader action with Ohio Valley at Ohio Valley on Wednesday. The Rams gained a 5-2 win in game one, while Ohio Valley recorded an 8-0 victory in the nightcap.

The Rams took a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning in game one behind a three-run homer by freshman outfielder Tayler Schaefer (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) and an RBI-double by senior second baseman Delaney Bell (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop Spalding).”

GEORGE MASON PATRIOTS:

“Georgetown University softball (14-17) beat George Mason (8-23) in nine innings by a score of 2-1 in Fairfax, Va. on Wednesday afternoon. The victory marks the fourth in a row for the Hoyas.

“ George Mason struck first in the second inning. With a runner on second and a throwing error by Georgetown, the Patriots had one on third when a single to third base made the score 1-0.

“ Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the seventh when Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) hit a solo shot to left center, evening the score at one and sending the contest to extra innings...

“Hyson accounted for five of seven hits for Georgetown.”

Stephanie Dameron
“... Radford extended its winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep over Liberty in Big South Softball action, Wednesday afternoon from RU Softball Field...”

In game one, “Stephanie Dameron (Dameron, Md) earned the win with three innings of shutout relief. Dameron (5-0) surrendered two hits and struck out one.”

NC STATE WOLFPACK: 

Emily Weiman
“NC State softball (15-19) split a doubleheader with Charlotte today at W.L. Phillips Field in Charlotte, N.C. The Pack dropped the first contest 5-1, but defeated the 49ers 9-7 in game two of the twinbill.

"Emily Weiman (Pasadena, Md) picked up the victory in the second contest, surrendering seven runs off of 11 hits while striking out 10 UNCC hitters.”

Meredith Henze
“The Seton Hall softball team was edged 1-0 by Rutgers in game one of a twinbill before falling 11-5 in the nightcap. The Pirates drop to 15-17 overall and 0-5 in BIG EAST play.”

Sophomore Meredith Henze (Elkton, Md.) doubled off the wall to break up the shutout.

► USF BULLS:

“The Bulls (30-5 overall, 3-0 Big East) used early runs... to knock off the fourth-ranked Gators (29-3 overall, 10-2 SEC) in front of 1,089 fans in Gainesville (Fl)... possibly the biggest defensive play came in the sixth, as Kourtney Salvarola (Arnold, Md) scooped up a grounder with the bases loaded and took the easy out at second, ending the Gators' best chance at a big inning. The inning doubled Florida's total runners left on base in the game, as the Gators had multiple runners on base just twice in the game...

"The goal today was to put a good swing on the first good pitch," Salvarola said. "I think we did a good job of that. We stayed within ourselves and didn't chase too many pitches. We made solid contact made things happen.

“The Bulls drew first blood. USF took advantage of a pair of first-inning walks and a single to load the bases before driving in the first run with Salvarola's sacrifice fly to right.”

“With the score tied at one in the bottom of the fourth inning, Chance started a decisive four-run rally for the Retrievers with an RBI single up the middle as all nine batters came to bat in the inning...

“After a scoreless first inning, the hosts struck first, taking the lead on a single up the middle by freshman Kaila Balatgek (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) which drove in senior Katie Ferguson (North East, Md./North East/Cecil CC) who had led off the inning with a single.”
