A champion in many ways
She plays for school & community
Jordan Sheridan, a junior at Christian Brothers Academy, Syracuse, NY, makes a mean riseball and changeup really count.
For starters, she holds the school record for Ks, wins, shutouts and innings pitched.
But she does more than sit down batters. She also is taking on hunger.
Jordan printed flyers to "Strike Out Hunger." She seeks a donation from family and friends to a interfaith soup kitchen for every batter she faces that is called out on a third strike. Her kid sister pledged five cents, but others have committed a buck per K.
For 2011, she tossed 139 strikeouts to net $3,723.75, which meant about 3,256 hot meals for the needy. Now that is power pitching!
