OPPONENTS STUNNED: The Messiah College Falcons crushed Monmouth College 11-1 and Salve Regina 10-1 yesterday.

Senior outfielder Jaclyn Merkel, Linthicum, Md, went 5-for-7, with 5 RBI, including a 2-run home run, and 6 runs scored. Needless to say, she left no one on base!

SHUTOUT SWEEP: The No. 25 Shenandoah University Hornets earned their first home doubleheader sweep of the season with 8-0 and 10-2 victories over the Stevenson University Mustangs Tuesday afternoon.

In the opener, Hornets junior catcher Denise Mitchell, Ellicott City, Md, led off the game with a triple and scored the only run needed in the bottom of the first.

In the second contest, RBI singles by Mustang freshman utility Stephanie Ayres, Upper Marlboro, Md, and senior first base, third base Kristin Urban, Timonium, Md, tied the game with two runs in the top of the second.

Mustang sophomore outfielder Lindsay Kuczak, Bel Air, Md, was 2-for-3 and senior shortstop, outfielder Lisa Bilski, Forest Hill, Md, was 2-for-2 with a walk.

17 HITS, 17 RUNS: The Shepherd University Rams rapped 17 hits in a 17-3 win over Winston Salem State in the nightcap to gain a split in softball doubleheader action at Winston-Salem State yesterday. Winston-Salem took a 5-4 win in 10 innings in game one.

Shepherd jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap. Senior infielder Delaney Bell, Glen Burnie, Md, started it by slamming a two-run homer.

The Rams put the game out of reach with seven runs on six hits in the third. Freshman outfielder Tayler Schaefer, Dunkirk, Md, had a two-run double to highlight the rally.

Tayler, senior designated hitter Kris Durham, Queen Anne, Md, and freshman catcher Savannah Snyder, Elkton, Md, each had three hits for the Rams.

CLOSE CONTESTS, A LOSS, A WIN, A WALK-OFF: The Washington College Shorewomen lost their first game of the day to Anderson University Ravens, 4-3, but won their second, 3-2, over Rutgers-Camden.

The Shorewomen scored in the first inning as freshman left fielder Kelsey Graham, Dunkirk, Md, doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an error.

The Ravens struck back before the Shorewomen evened things up in the top of the third on a two-run double by freshman shortstop Suzanne Patinella, Fallston, Md, who went 2-for-3.

In the Shorewomen's second game of the day, junior center fielder Lindsey Glascock, Glenwood, Md, led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and came home on a walk-off game-winning sacrifice fly to right center.

Senior pitcher Jill Piasecki, Galena, Md, held Rutgers-Camden to two runs, only one of them earned, on two hits and four walks in picking up the win.
